Hi, I'm Shruti
A Touch of India was launched in June 2023 However, the idea was born 15 years ago when I, Shruti, started my graduation degree in Textile Design at NIFT back in India. The rich handcrafts native to each region in India always fascinated me, and became the reason why I chose to go to design school. Despite studying Math & Physics with an aim to get a degree in Computer Science Engineering, I followed my heart (best decision ever! Otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this today!). But when I started school, I soon discovered that many parts of the world remained devoid of having experienced these rich handcrafts. I started dreaming of finding a way to bring India to the world. Most of Indian crafts have been passed generation on generation, with the adoption of some modern techniques, whilst preserving the authenticity of the craft. About 6 MILLION artisans depend on their livelihood on their inherited wisdom of craftsmanship!
Back in early 2021, after moving to the UK, I just knew, this is the time to bring my dream to reality. I started digging my contacts back from my design school days, and reached out to artisans, travelled to India, met some vendors, established supply chain routes, and finally came to life a dream that was 15 years in making.

Our business is truly a family affair, built on the collective strength, wisdom, and passion of those closest to me. My parents and my husband are the backbone of this venture, each bringing their unique talents to the table.
Dad has always been the driving force behind our bold decisions, drawing on years of experience running a successful business in India. His insights have been invaluable in dealing with vendors, securing reliable shipping partners, and navigating the complexities of international trade.
Mom is our quality control inspector! Her meticulous attention to detail ensures that every item we receive from India meets the highest standards. Her packing is an art form—whether it’s a tiny accessory or a large vase, everything arrives safely, without shifting even a millimeter during the long journey from India to the UK. And the best part? The surprise homemade goodies she tucks into each shipment, which brighten my entire week more than the UK sunshine ever could!
My husband never imagined that running a business could be this much fun. He’s our packing optimization expert and my go-to courier partner. His candid feedback on customer perceptions, pricing strategies, and promotions is crucial in helping us fine-tune our offerings and stay connected with our community.
Together, we’re a dream team, united by our shared vision and excitement for the journey ahead.
